The Acting Corps, the prolific North Hollywood acting school led by veteran actor and instructor Eugene Buica, opened for business in 2001. In the 10 years since, more than 5,000 students have enrolled in its various programs. A significant percentage of those students went on to land roles in film or television. Some of the actors who studied with Eugene Buica and the Acting Corps faculty include Margaret Cho and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Under Eugene Buica’s leadership, The Acting Corps offers a number of classes and workshops with the goal of quickly and expertly teaching the art of acting. The Actors’ Boot Camp and The Daily Actors’ Workout are two core programs Eugene Buica offers to students. He emphasizes, however, the acting should be viewed as needing daily practice. In addition, Eugene Buica recognizes the need to comprehend the business of acting. Students enrolled at The Acting Corps receive training in how to determine their type, prepare for an audition, choose the right photographer, accumulate a reel, and present a professional resume.
A veteran of more than 50 roles in television, film, and stage, Eugene Buica spent his early career studying at The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York and under the tutelage of Sanford Meisner of The Meisner Technique. Eugene Buica still draws heavily from Meisner’s approach of "living truthfully under imaginary circumstances" in his teaching at The Acting Corps. Eugene Buica also favors the acting approach of Michael Chekhov, who taught actors to search for the archetype behind their characters’ motivations.
In addition to acting, Eugene Buica also writes and directs. The Los Angeles Times bestowed high praise on Eugene Buica for both his writing and starring turn in the play Parachute.
